Bears of Winter is a one man show, that one man being Andrew Morse. “I put records together, release them and promote them.” Morse says. Since beginning in 2006 this Baltimore based band has been arranging guitar, piano, bass and vocals to create what some dub indietronica. Bears of Winter is currently has a sophomore release out now titled i.machine.
Skratch: Give me an idea of what one would expect from your live show:
BOW: A void.
Skratch: What do you do off the stage?
BOW: Write, play and record.
Skratch: Where do you enjoy touring? Any good stories?
BOW: I like to travel. I like the open road and the sky that meets it in the distance. The stories are in the music.
Skratch: What are you favorite two lyric lines from your recent songs? Tell me a little about them.
BOW: The line (from Metamorphosis I, on our upcoming album "i.machine"): "I could tell you how I felt that day: I was drowning in a pool of my desire for change." It speaks to the fact that some will get lost in the want for something different, but how you get to that point matters as much as the result of your effort.
Skratch: What other special talents do you have aside from music? Any hobbies?
BOW: I have another band, White Star Black...we play rock and roll.
Skratch: Any secret crushes you care to divulge?
BOW: Lily Allen, but it's not a big secret.
Skratch: Politically, where do you stand?
BOW: We stand out of the way.
Skratch: Aside from being a "rockstar", do you have a day job? What are your goals?
BOW: For Bears of Winter, the goal is the creation of art.
Skratch: When all is said and done, how do you want to be remembered as an act and as a person?
BOW: I want Bears of Winter to be viewed as its own musical instrument, with its own tone, that commented on the light and dark in life.
Skratch: Who are you more likely to be like? A pyromaniac, a teacher, and/or a Olympic swimmer?
BOW: I light fires. I show the way. I stay afloat.
