Interview — Shattered Pain

Skratch Magazine

Shattered Pain is a rock heavy Christian band. But even if Christianity isn’t your thing, Travis Hampton (lead vocals/guitar), Ray Stinson (lead guitar), Josh Wade (bass), Andie Godwin (vocals/keyboard) and Dylan Brewer (drums) insist that you can still enjoy their “face-melting” music. “Even though we are Christians, everyone can get something out of our music and take something from it and apply it to their everyday lives,” they explain. “We don’t exclude people and try to make them see it our way; we just try to give hope.”

Skratch: How did you become interested in music?

SP: Music has been a big part of each of our lives’ so we all just kind of new that’s what we wanted to do. Some of the band member has played for high school marching bands. So music has always been in our lives’

Skratch: What is your song writing process like? We write mostly from experience or what we have seen other people go through.

Skratch : What artists or musicians inspire you?

SP: Lots of band have but the main band would be skillet.

Skratch: Where do you take musical inspiration from? Your environment? People? Explain. A little of both cause were from Nashville so music is big time around hear but people inspire us as well friends, family and fans.

Skratch: What is your musical background?

SP: Marching band being in other rock bands and playing at church

Skratch: Tell us about how you got started as a band.

SP: Wow. Umm, we have all been friends for a very long time went to school together and grew up close together so we knew that we all played music so we just decide to start a band together and here we are now.

Skratch: What is the most rewarding part of playing in a band?

SP: Probably the people telling you how much your music has helped them through the day or even changed there life’s and playing shows is pretty rewarding as well.

Skratch: What challenges have you faced as musicians?

SP: Well trying to work around job schedules and just trying to make time in general is a pretty tough challenge and trying to get people to hear your music.

Skratch: What would you say is your best song to date? Why?
SP: Wow this one is hard we couldn’t say we have a best but our song Brokenness Revealed seems to get a lot of hits.

Skratch: Do you remember the first album you ever bought? What was it?
SP: Honestly no I’m sure it was a rap CD probably.

Skratch: Where do you see your band in five years?

SP: On the road playing to thousands and changing life’s

Skratch: Would you say your goals as a band are long term, or short term? What do you ultimately hope to achieve? Explain.

SP: I would say long term we look to take this all the way from sea to shinning sea our main goal would be to show people that there is hope in this awful world and not to give up to keep trying and know that God has a plan for us all.

Skratch: How has your band evolved since when you first formed?

SP: We have a came along way so we have evolved very very well.

Skratch: How often do you practice? What is your rehearsal time like? We practice 2 times a week for 2 hours.

SP: What would you say is your band’s motto? Explain. Keep a good attitude and stay committed and don’t give up.

Skratch: What shows/album releases/plans do you currently have set up? Tell us about them. We have a battle of the bands coming up for gorilla productions other than that nothing.

Where have your performed? Tell us about the experience. We have performed in Kentucky and Tennessee great times kind of got our name out there a little more we have made a lot of fans in just those to states.

Skratch: What sets your stage show a part from all the other bands making the rounds at venues?

SP: I think our attitude does we look happy when we play and we give it everything we have because we believe you should give it all and nothing less some bands take it for granted performing should be a privilege not a job.
